a Rods and Cones Art Gallery

OUR MISSION

Many of our clients create beautiful art, trust Rods and Cones to reproduce it faithfully, and don’t always have the chance to be seen. Under the Cone is for them. We are saddened that so much art is hidden from the public, either because it’s privately held, or because it’s created by people who are not perceived as artists, and also because it may get lost in the huge body of work already available to the public. We propose to offer exhibits of unpublished and unsung artists, based on themes or natural affiliation. We present innovative, beautiful, fresh, compelling and carefully chosen art, assembled in temporary exhibits, constantly renewed.

Under the Cone launches with 15 artists that permanently inhabit the gallery. Every few months, one of them will be prominently featured and you will get to know the artist well. Our featured artist is Robert Kato. Bob is an artist through and through, creating beautiful images with a vision that will catch your breath every time. It is difficult to write about his work because it has so many layers. His eye sees things we don’t often notice and that is the beginning of his art. Some people believe that digitally enhancing photography is for those who can’t take a picture that stands on its own. But that’s not the case with Bob’s work. His eye, how he captures what he sees and what his image finally becomes are so many layers of perfection, each enhancing the next.

Our student artist is Nick London. He attended Oxbow School in Napa, California, a high school that integrates art to academics. Nick explores different media that serve strong messages. We look forward to seeing where his work will take him and we wish him beautiful and creative years in college.

Our guest artist is a breath of fresh air in our technical world. Ann McMillan likes to paint outside. She uses pastel and thanks to her eyes, places you could never capture in a photo erupt on her canvas, bursting with color and life, so fluid that you know that it’s air and only air that she paints.

Our gallery is a labor of love, an indulgence in an otherwise hectic and relentless world where survival of the business is most important. We do not expect to make a profit but you can buy prints of the works you most like and help our artists fund their passion. This gallery is for them, to thank them for their trust and for their beautiful work. And for you who have taken the time to visit.
