I have been taking pictures all my life but I let it go when my children were growing. I am a semiretired Nuclear Medicine physician at UCSF. A friend of my Dr. Herb Kaufman, invited me to join the Marin Photography Club about 8 years ago. To Herb, who recently died, I owe a lot. He was one of those pivotal people who change your life. Over the last 8 years I have been passionate about taking pictures. My venue has been in the printed image as well projected images. During these past years I have travelled extensively with camera in tow. Another epiphany was in Vietnam in town called Bak La. I was shooting a muted sunrise of the mountains off the balcony of my hotel when a Canadian photographer joined me. He was shooting digitally and was looking at the images as he shot. I sold my film camera a purchased my first digital camera. I have not looked back and embraced digital photography. The images that draw me are muted images in fog and mist. I love the sunrise and sunsets because of the incredible light and color at both ends of the day. I strive for simplicity in images. Isolation and separation are important elements of a picture. I like people in pictures because it connects humanity to the images and gives it perspective in size. Most of my pictures are at the club level where I am in masters and salon categories. Many have won prizes in Northern California. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to judge images at other clubs. Judging other peoples images, increases your critical skills. There are times when I look at scene and am emotionally moved. There also times that I have simply taken my camera for a long drive. Digital photography is changing how we look at pictures. It's another realm of taking pictures. The original images now becomes a background pallet in which to develop a new image. The digital images adds another discipline in imaging making. It increases your artistic sense. In the last year or two, I have developed a web site called, "Eugenephotograpy.com". Your welcomed to take a peak.
